Quite often networking can seem to be daunting and overwhelming. However, networking can actually be enjoyable and beneficial if you remember these five simple networking tips.
This may seem like an unusual activity to undertake, but volunteering and networking actually go hand in hand. By dedicating your time as a volunteer, you make new friends, expand your network and boost your social skills.
Volunteering also provides you with renewed creativity, motivation and a vision that can carry over into your personal and professional life. By allowing you to help others while also helping yourself, it gives you purpose. It’s a win-win situation!
Excited to announce that songs from the Busy Izzy and Friends catalogue are now playing on Kinderling Kids Radio.
The Busy Izzy and Friends songs are very popular with kids, teachers and parents.
Here is a quote from head teacher, Nazan Polat Principal Prestons Primary
"Dear Roxanne and Stephen, thank you for the wonderful incursion earlier this week. Our students and teachers loved it! The show and the songs were highly engaging and interactive and many meaningful messages in the story line. Thank you again and kind Regards".
The World Literacy Foundation is a global not-for-profit that works to lift young people out of poverty through literacy. Founded in Melbourne, Australia in 2003, the World Literacy Foundation operates on the principle that education is a basic human right. https://worldliteracyfoundation.org.
CEO, Andy Kay spoke of the relationship between the World Literacy Foundation and Roxanne and Stephen:
"On behalf of the World Literacy Foundation, I’d like to acknowledge Roxanne and Stephen for this wonderful series that they’ve developed. It’s really a privilege to be involved with it. I think it’s fantastic that they’ve decide to link the initiative with the World Literacy Foundation." says, Andy Kay.
Did you know that the blue light emanating from digital devices, can penetrate young eyes and may cause retinal damage?
This is because children’s eyes develop gradually, and they lack a certain filter that protects their eyes. Adults have protective pigments in their eyes that help prevent blue light exposure. Talk to your local eye care specialist about filtered lenses. These filter out blue light and provide protection for children's eyes. It is important to 'set time for screen time' for our young ones.
I have always enjoyed baking and especially making healthy snacks. Just like Busy Izzy does. She enjoys making healthy snacks for her friends, when they visit her at Nix & Nax. "Help yourself to my snaxalicious snacks", says Izzy to her friends.
Do you love to cook? I do and Busy Izzy does too.
When my sister Elaine and I were really young, around 6 and 7 years of age, we would make huts at the back of our house on the farm. Sometimes, our dad would help us out by putting up old sacks to make walls for our hut. When the walls were up, Elaine and I would get busy, making mud pies, mud quiches, mud cakes... basically mud everything. It was lots of fun playing with mud.
"People often ask where the idea for Busy Izzy and Friends came from.
I guess it was a subconscious thing...I was born on a dairy farm and milking cows and working on the farm from the age of 7.
I would often write songs and poetry while milking and I was scared of the big cows and writing songs would take my mind off how big they were. But I loved them just the same and they were my favourite pets.
When I was little, during a morning milking, I wrote a song called, "The Bluebird In The Treetop" and this is now one of the songs in the Busy Izzy and Friends, song catalogue. Pretty cool indeed!
On the farm, mum, dad and my brothers and sisters and I, all pitched in with planting, digging and harvesting: We grew all of our own food — corn, tomatoes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, carrots — and we had a massive orchard with guava trees, feijoa trees, lemon, mandarin, orange, plum, apple, pear, peach and tree tomatoes (now called tamarillo) and grapevines, too. We would help mum bottle the fruit for the off season.
Children are influenced by their parents, guardians, older siblings and sometimes their friends. They all become role models, whether they are a good or a bad influence.
When children see their parents, other adults and older children showing respect for each other they usually do the same with their siblings and friends.
Busy Izzy is a wonderful role model for all children and the Busy Izzy world is a great tool for parents and guardians.
With technology becoming more commonly used among children, it is crucial to utilise different media platforms and mediums in a positive light to change the way children learn.
Although research clearly demonstrates that well-designed, age-appropriate, educational television can be beneficial to children of preschool age, studies on infants and toddlers suggest that these young children may better understand and learn from books and real-life experiences than they do from videos.
Children love to learn new and exciting things. This is why it is important to not only entertain at a kid’s party, but make them aware of the importance of music, and movement, fun, healthy living, friendship, caring and loyalty.
Exciting news; 'Busy Izzy and Friends' has partnered with Prosper (Project Australia) to support the health and well-being of Australian children through performances, nutrition and cooking showcases, literacy and learning activities and other special events.

Busy Izzy and her friends had such a good time visiting Amity College and hope to be back to catch up with their new friends again, soon!
Amity School Principal, Mrs Nazan Polat, said the Busy Izzy and Friends show was "...one the best incursion into Amity College, ever!".
Here's Busy Izzy’s backyard friend, Wormee, to tell us all about making compost from food scraps.
"Hi friends! I’m Wormee, a "compost vermi"...
I lead my little friends through all the scraps.
We live inside the compost bin that Izzy has out back, of her little store in Green Grass Grove, we call "Nix & Nax".
I’m Wormee... and I'm on a journey.
Just a taste of rotting waste, we'll all be moving in. We're a positive advantage in Busy Izzy’s compost bin.
We've been overwhelmed with the response by singers and performers who have recorded "Sometimes A Friend",
A little while ago, after the world began to realise that "staying at home" was the best thing to do while the Covid-19 virus was having such a big effect, Stephen and I thought it would be a nice gesture to have our friends and colleagues record their own version of our award-winning song, and upload it to the Busy Izzy and Friends Facebook page.
It is great to create and we have been feeling very creative lately. Producing video clips for the series and writing more songs for the Busy Izzy and Friends stage show.
I love working with Stephen Kiely (co-writer of the Busy Izzy and Friends song catalogue) We bounce off of each other really well while incorporating lyrical and musical ideas. Playing around with clever internal rhymes and interchanging melodies is always lots of fun. When work becomes play...it is a lot of fun!
